About the tour

On this once-in-a-lifetime tour you'll begin by exploring the alpine resort towns of Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper, before boarding VIA Rail's Canadian train for a trip through the Canadian Rockies to Vancouver. After exploring the exciting city of Vancouver, you'll swap the rails for the waterways when you board your cruise ship to take you through Alaska's Inside Passage on a seven-night cruise.

Your journey begins today with your flight from London to Calgary.

Banff

Days 1-2 - Banff

When you arrive in Calgary today, you'll be transferred to the town of Banff, and to your hotel where you'll be spending the next two nights. Relax at your hotel, or start exploring this beautiful alpine resort town.

On Day 2 you'll take a guided tour of Banff to get to know this alpine town better. You'll learn the history of the town, which was founded in the 1880s when the Canadian Pacific Railway landed here. On your tour you'll visit the Tunnel and Rundle Mountains, the Cave & Basin National Historic Site, and the Hoodoos. You'll also take the Banff Gondola to the summit of Sulphur Mountain.

In the evening you have free time to explore on your own, or you can choose admission to Banff Hot Springs or take an evening wildlife safari.

Banff to Lake Louise

Day 3 – Banff to Lake Louise

Banff to Lake Louise

Enjoy a free morning in Banff and do any last minute souvenir shopping, or take some time at your new favourite coffee spot and watch the local life go by. This afternoon you'll leave Banff and travel to Lake Louise where you'll be transferred to your hotel. Head out on your own to explore this pretty village and get to know Lake Louise a little. Make sure you take your camera with you as the lake looks glorious with Victoria Glacier as its magnificent backdrop.

Alternatively, take a sightseeing tour, available at a supplement, from Banff to Lake Louise this morning, and take in some stunning scenery on the way as you travel through Yoho National Park. You'll see the Valley of the Ten Peaks, Spiral Tunnels and Emerald Lake. You'll be transferred to your hotel on arrival at Lake Louise.

Lake Louise to Jasper

Day 4 – Lake Louise to Jasper

This morning you'll continue your journey onto Jasper, on a sight seeing tour along the way. As you travel along the Icefield Parkway, you'll take in some incredible views of the unique landscape. On the way you'll make a stop at the dramatic Columbia Icefield. On arrival in Jasper, you'll be transferred to your hotel where you can rest, or head out to explore Jasper.

Day 5 - Jasper

Jasper

Take a free day in Jasper today to delve deeper into this stunning alpine town. Take the Jasper Tramway for incredible views over the town and the surrounding area, or choose to take a walking food tour for a gastronomic introduction to Jasper. On this foodie based tour of the town, you'll also learn about Jasper's history. Or, take to the Athabasca River on an easy rafting/float trip along the water. Relax back in your hotel this evening for your second night in Jasper.

Day 6 – VIA Rail’s Canadian

VIA Rail’s Canadian

Take your time over your own independent breakfast this morning, and then you'll transfer to the railway station to board VIA Rail's Canadian train to Vancouver. Get to know your accommodation for the night and relax onboard the train as the next part of your journey begins. With your Sleeper Plus package you'll have access to the Skyline and Park Cars where you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the scenery as you pass through the Canadian Rockies on your way to Vancouver.

Day 7 - Arriving in Vancouver

On arrival in Vancouver today you have a free day to enjoy the city as you like. You'll make your own way to your hotel, but you can take a hop on hop off sightseeing tour first that shows you all the major hot spots to get to know Vancouver better. You'll see Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium, English Bay Beach, Granville Island, Chinatown, and the Robson Street shopping district of the city. Or, you can chill at your hotel, or wander the streets of Vancouver on foot and get to know the city on the ground.

Day 8 - Exploring Vancouver

Exploring Vancouver

Today you have a second free day in Vancouver to explore at your own pace. Walk the coastal paths that skirt the city, with majestic views of the ocean, or go shopping on Robson Street. Alternatively, you can book onto a Vancouver city tour and experience the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Or, take part in a food tour of Granville Island Market and taste some of Vancouver's incredible local dishes. If you feel like being more active and you fancy seeing the city on wheels, take a bike tour of Stanley Park.

Day 9 – Alaska Cruise

This morning you'll leave your hotel and make your way to the cruise ship terminal to begin the next part of your epic journey as you board your Holland America Ship. Get to know your accommodation on board and meet the crew, then watch Vancouver drift away from your position on deck as you sail on to the next part of your adventure. Watch the landscape change as you leave the city and enter more remote areas. Relax as you spend your first night onboard.

Joining The Inside Passage

Enjoy breakfast onboard this morning as you travel the coast of Southeast Alaska. Known as Alaska's Inside Passage, this is a network of protected waterways that take you through rain forests and along fjords flanked by glaciers. It's said to be one of the world's most beautiful cruising routes and offers the opportunity to spot grizzly bears, bald eagles, orcas, and humpback whales. From Misty Fjords National Monument to Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, the Inside Passage takes you to picturesque port cities and past stunning scenery. When you're not watching the magical landscapes pass by, you can take advantage of the ship's spa and swimming pool, or take a cooking class in the Culinary Arts Centre.

As you arrive at the Tracy Arm Inlet this morning, enjoy your breakfast onboard and watch as the steep cliffs and glacier covered mountains welcome you. You'll travel through America's largest intact coastal temperate rainforest, due to the area's old-growth trees that have been here since the Ice Age. You'll then continue on through the Sinuous Waterway and arrive at Juneau this afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to explore Juneau, capital city of Alaska.

Discover the Tongass National Park, the biggest national forest in the United States, or take the Mount Roberts Tramway and get incredible views of the city and the surrounding mountains. If you're craving some activity, hike the mountains or get out on the water on a kayak. Or, choose an optional excursion that gives you an overview of the city and introduces you to the culture and top sights of the area.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included, and your journey continues overnight onboard.

Klondike Gold Rush National Park

Following breakfast onboard this morning, you'll stop at the goldrush town of Skagway, a town frozen in time. Part of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, Skagway has been perfectly preserved and gives you a trip back through history. Step inside the old saloons, especially the Red Onion Saloon where you can see Wyatt Earp's pistol, and take a look in the old shops. See the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway, a narrow-gauge railway that takes you past mountains and glaciers. Visit the cemetery where gold rush miners are buried and take a look around the Skagway Museum and the Trail of '98 Museum.

You can also choose to add an optional excursion and try your hand at gold panning or dogsledding, or you can delve into the area's food on a gastronomical adventure.

Glacier Bay

Day 13 – Glacier Bay

Your incredible journey continues this morning as you travel through Glacier Bay, where you'll experience some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. As you journey along the waterway, dramatic rock walls and sheer cliffs surround you. The snow-capped mountains form a majestic backdrop and pristine beaches stretch along the coastline. It's a great area for whale watching and there are 16 glaciers to see in Glacier Bay.

National Park service rangers and Huna Tlingit guides will step aboard to take you though the fascinating ecosystem that surrounds you, and to give you information and local knowledge about the native culture here. Dinner is served onboard, after which you can relax with a drink and continue to watch the landscape drift by.

Ketchikan

Day 14 - Ketchikan

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast onboard this morning before you make your next stop at Ketchikan, a place of much significance to Alaska's fishing industry. For this reason, you'll find some must-try seafood restaurants here that tempt you in with the day's catch. Visit the Tongass Historical Museum for local history, as well as the Totem Heritage Centre, the Totem Bright State Park and Saxman Village. Take a trip to the Misty Fjords National Monument, place of spectacular scenery where rainforests, waterfalls, and the steep cliffs provide a diverse landscape in one place.

Day 15 – The Inside Passage

The Inside Passage

You'll spend your day onboard the ship today, enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner, in the restaurant, as you begin your journey back through the Inside Passage. Take the chance to see these enchanting landscapes once more and have your camera ready for anything you didn't catch the first time. Make use of the spa and treat yourself to a massage, try out your luck in the casino, or shop for souvenirs in the onboard boutiques. Or, brush up on your culinary skills with an onboard cookery class, led by professionals.

Inbound Travel

Day 16 & 17 - Vancouver to UK

Your incredible adventure comes to its end today when you arrive back into Vancouver. You'll disembark the ship and you'll be transferred to Vancouver airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.

As you arrive back into the UK today, you'll be taking with you lots of new memories.
